Professor Song Hongmei is the Director of Pediatrics and doctoral supervisor at Peking Union Medical College (PUMC)Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS).
After completing her undergraduate and master’s education in China, Dr. Song went to Japan and received her Ph.D. degree from the Department of Second Internal Medicine, University of Occupational & Environmental Health, Japan. She returned to the Department of Pediatrics at PUMC Hospital in 2000 and served as attending physician, associate professor, professor, deputy director since 2003, and director since 2009.
Dr. Song is currently a standing Committee member of the Pediatric Commission of Chinese Medical Association and Chairman of Immunology Division, President of Beijing Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and Chairman of Rheumatology and Immunology Division, Chairman of Rare Diseases Medication Working Committee of Chinese Pharmacists Association, Deputy head of Pediatric Group of Expert Committee on Clinical Rational Drug Use of National Health Commission, Deputy editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Pediatrics, Executive deputy editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Evidence Based Pediatrics. She is also an editorial board member and reviewer of many professional journals.
Her research interests are in pediatric rheumatic and immunologic diseases. Recently, her research has focused on autoinflammatory diseases (AIDs), especially type I interferonopathy, which is a type of primary immune disorder. Using gene trap high-throughput sequencing and next-generation sequencing (NGS) combined with Sanger sequencing verification, she and her research group validated several AIDs, some of which are the first cases in China, including STING-associated vasculopathy with onset in infancy (SAVI), pyogenic sterile arthritis, pyoderma gangrenosum, acne (PAPA), and joint contractures, muscle atrophy, microcytic anemia, and panniculitis-induced childhood onset lipodystrophy (JMP syndrome). Dr. Song has chaired or participated in several research grants and has published more than 150 academic papers. Dr. Song has also received the third prize of Beijing Medical Science and Technology Progress Award and other awards.
